Through a route prepared between agricultural paths, pedestrian trails, and roads that pass by the residents of the villages—whom we always wave to—we will go from point to point, with time to discover some curiosities and capture many moments and photos.

Our Coast

Let's head north, very close to the city of Aveiro, beach by beach, at times with the mixed scent of both freshwater and saltwater.

We will depart from Mira, passing by its award-winning beach, and follow along the Aveiro Lagoon until Praia da Vagueira. From there, we will head straight to the famous striped houses of Costa Nova, where we will be literally between the Ria and the sea. Soon after, we will stop at the salt pans to gather this very Portuguese condiment, not before visiting the second largest lighthouse on the Iberian Peninsula and admiring the powerful fishing boats used for cod fishing.

The return will be along a scenic route as well, but now on the eastern side of the Ria, with a stop for a drink and a typical local snack.

Aveiro and its Charms

It's not Venice… it’s Aveiro, with its Art Nouveau architecture, ovos moles (traditional sweet), and its Ria navigated by the typical Moliceiro boats.

The journey, which will take just over 30 minutes, will be along forest roads framed by the richness of the pine forests, whose strength and fertility were taken from the arms of the Ria (... we’ll explain later!). Once in Aveiro, we will board a Moliceiro boat that will show us the mastery of ancient construction techniques and the ingenuity of the local culture.

We will have time to stock up on as many ovos moles as needed before returning to Mira along the route closer to the sea and the lagoon, with some special stops along the way!

A Wine Beneath the Earth

It may sound unbelievable, but it’s true! Close to us, we have a fascinating collection of art wonderfully blended with the region’s finest nectars, resting among the art.

Just 30 km away, after a peaceful journey through the slow-paced life of the local villages, we propose a visit to renowned Wine Celler and its underground museum.

After tasting the nectars and replenishing the cellar (you can purchase wines on-site), we will return via the magnificent Bussaco Palace and the thermal village of Curia. With a bit of planning, we may have time for a Bairrada-style roasted suckling pig sandwich in the Mealhada area, which is just nearby.

Around the Wood-Fired Oven

This takes place in the well-preserved and representative kitchen of the Casa Gandaresa, in the village of Seixo! We open the front gate and the wooden door latch, the kind with a hole for the cat to pass through! Patiently, we will light the fire and heat the oven. During this time, we’ll knead the dough, which will later become a delicious bread that’s best appreciated when made slowly, while sharing a conversation. While the dough rises and the oven warms up, we’ll visit the Casa Gandaresa and learn to "spin the top"...!

Discovering "The Old Days"

We will visit and experience the Casa Gandaresa in the village of Seixo! After understanding its main architecture, we’ll step onto its wooden floors and allow ourselves to be immersed in different sensations... it’s so fascinating to learn how our ancestors lived!

We’ll also have time to play with traditional games from the region and take a quick visit to the moliceiro boat nearby!

Depending on the time of day, we'll enjoy either a sweet bread with a lemonade or a chorizo in corn bread with a local "tintol" wine.

A Picnic in the Dunes!

We lay the blanket on the ground, open the wicker basket, and let time do its work!

Using our 4x4 vehicles, we drive along an authorized route until we reach a dune point, from which we can enjoy the coastal landscape of our Praia de Mira. At this spot, we breathe in the sea breeze coming from the west and take in the green mantle of the opposite side. It's an unparalleled natural scene, one we aim to help protect, and it will be the main character of this experience. It could be a sunrise or a sunset… it's just a matter of choosing when!

Sailing on the Ria!

Seeing the Ria from the Ria itself is the best way to explain it. We will head to the pier, where we will board a boat led by a local Master who, with a steady hand on the helm, will guide us through the calm waters of the Ria to discover its wonders, its stories and adventures. And with a bit of luck, we may spot ospreys, the resident flamingos, and other inhabitants of the Ria.

If you wish to bring your fishing rod, you might even catch lunch or dinner.
