Inspired by the Beach and by Nature.
This is a region known for its vast sandy plains and once-barren lands that, over many years and through the hard work of the local people, were fertilized and reinforced so that the inert, unproductive sands could be transformed into fertile, cultivable fields.
In Mira, you can visit the Main Church (dating back to 1690) and the Gândara Territory Museum, which offers a fascinating journey through time and through the natural and cultural heritage of the region. Before heading to the beach, don’t forget to stop by the Gandaresa House Interpretation and Culture Center.
On your way to the beach, you'll pass by places such as the Mira Lagoon and the Fazendeira Windmills, among others — perfect spots to rest and recharge, especially if you’re cycling or walking. There are also several picnic areas and many walking and cycling trails to enjoy.
The best that the municipality of Mira has to offer — from beaches and gastronomy to wellness and nature.

Those who explore and enjoy the lands of Mira - especially along the 25 km pedestrian and cycling path - will notice the variety of landscapes they cross: from the coastal strip and sand dunes to the vast green forest, interspersed with patchwork agricultural fields, waterways, and two freshwater lagoons that together create a delightful natural setting.
In this region, 198 bird species, 12 fish species, 13 amphibians, 12 reptiles, and 22 mammals have been recorded. As for plants, over 402 floristic species have already been identified.
It’s these natural wonders that we invite you to explore!
Beach.
With extensive stretches of fine sand, surrounded by dunes and bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, the beaches of the Mira municipality are the perfect invitation - not only for refreshing summer days but also for peaceful rest and contemplation outside the busy season.
Praia de Mira, the only bathing area in the world to have been awarded the Blue Flag every year since the program began in 1987, and Praia do Poço da Cruz, which has also held the Blue Flag since 2007, are beaches of outstanding environmental quality. They offer excellent conditions for sports such as bodyboarding, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, and surfing. Once again, in 2025, the Portuguese Nature Conservation Association (Quercus) awarded our beaches the "Gold Quality" flag.
